Cricket's three formats and the tournaments Bangladeshi fans love

Cricket is played in three main formats — T20, ODI and Test. Each has its own pace, strategy and betting markets.

T20 is the fastest format — every ball counts in these 20-over matches. A flurry of sixes followed by a quick wicket can flip the result in any over. BPL (Bangladesh Premier League) and IPL are the most popular T20 tournaments and both have a special following among Bangladeshi fans.

ODI, or one-day cricket, gives each team 50 overs. Strategy here is more layered — betting decisions are shaped by the powerplay, mid-over run rate and death overs combined. ODI format carries more weight in the T20 World Cup and other ICC tournaments.

Test cricket is the longest format — played over five days, with pitch behaviour, weather and a player's consistent form all influencing how betting calculations shift. Test betting is most suited to those who understand cricket deeply.

Remember: Betting is for entertainment. Only bet an amount you can afford to lose on any single match.

Football and other sports — what else you can find alongside cricket

bengar football and other sports betting

Alongside cricket, you can also bet on football at bengar. The most popular football market is match result (1X2) — meaning Team A wins, draw, or Team B wins. In limited-overs cricket there is no draw, so you only weigh two possible outcomes. In football there are three.

In cricket, bowling, pitch and wickets all work together, so the ground and weather have a much bigger influence. In football, team form and lineup matter more than the pitch. Understanding this difference makes it easier to make betting decisions across both sports.

bengar also has interactive games like Aviator and Bombing Fishing — for those who want something different between cricket matches. The rest of this page is entirely about cricket and sports betting.

bengar cricket's 7 popular markets — how each one works

Each market has its own approach. Below is a brief explanation of the seven most commonly used markets.

Match Winner

A bet on which of the two teams will win. There is no draw in T20 or ODI, so it is simply Team A or Team B. Test cricket includes the draw as an option.

Simple and popular

Toss Winner

Who will win the toss before the match starts. The result is entirely down to chance — pitch conditions and form have no bearing. A very quick-settling market.

Quick result

Top Batsman

Which batsman from a team will score the most runs in an innings or across the match. Decisions are based on the team's batting order and current form.

Individual performance

Total Runs — Over/Under

Whether the runs scored in an innings will be above (over) or below (under) a set line. Example: will total runs in the first 20 overs be more than 160?

Run count

Multi Bet

Add three or more selections to a single betting slip. If all are correct the return increases, but one loss means the entire bet is lost.

Higher risk, higher return

Handicap Betting

One team is given a virtual run advantage or disadvantage. This market is used to narrow the gap between two teams of differing strength.

Balanced odds

Top Wicket-Taker

Which bowler will take the most wickets in the match. Decisions are guided by the type of pitch — whether it favours spin or pace.

How to read odds — three formats explained

At bengar you will see three types of odds — decimal, fractional and American. Two examples below explain how they work.

Format Team A (underdog) Team B (favourite) What it means
Decimal 2.50 1.80 Total return including stake — ৳200 × 2.50 = ৳500
Fractional 3/2 4/5 Profit ratio — 3/2 means ৳3 profit on a ৳2 stake
American +150 −125 + means profit on a ৳100 stake; − means stake needed to profit ৳100

Example 1 — betting on the underdog (Team A)

You place a ৳200 bet on Team A to win. Decimal odds 2.50 = fractional 3/2 = American +150. If Team A wins, your total return is ৳500 (৳300 profit + ৳200 original stake). If Team A loses, you lose ৳200.

Example 2 — betting on the favourite (Team B)

Team B's odds are decimal 1.80 = fractional 4/5 = American −125. A ৳200 bet returns ৳360 if Team B wins (৳160 profit). American −125 means you need to stake ৳125 to profit ৳100.

Lower odds mean the team is a stronger favourite — and the return is lower. Higher odds mean the team is an underdog — you get more back if they win, but the chance of losing is also higher. Odds never guarantee a win.

When a wicket falls, odds shift — how in-play betting works

You can place bets after a match has started — this is called live or in-play betting. It is the most fast-moving part of sports betting.

In T20, if a team loses three quick wickets after 15 overs, that team's odds to win will rise immediately (because they are now behind). The opposing team's odds will drop. These changes happen in real time.

In ODI, market odds adjust based on the run rate after the powerplay. If three wickets fall in the first 10 overs on a pace-friendly pitch, the odds for the chasing team shorten. In Test cricket, the next day's markets open based on how the pitch cracks look at the close of play.

Before placing in-play bets, make sure you understand the betting rules. Reading bengar's terms and conditions will make clear how in-play betting works and in what circumstances a bet may be voided.

Multi bet — how placing multiple selections together works

In a multi bet, three or more selections are combined on a single betting slip. The odds for each selection are multiplied together, resulting in a much larger combined odds figure.

Example — a three-selection multi bet

You pick three different teams across three matches. Their decimal odds are 1.40, 1.70 and 1.90 respectively. Combined multi odds: 1.40 × 1.70 × 1.90 = 4.52 (approximately). A ৳100 bet returns ৳452 if all three are correct. But if any one of the three loses, the entire ৳100 is lost.

Multi bets can deliver higher returns, but the risk is equally higher. Beginners are better off starting with two selections. A full guide on how to build a multi bet slip is available on the bengar Bet page.

Multi bet advantages and cautions

  • ✓Odds multiply so returns increase
  • ✓Chance of a larger return from a small stake
  • !One wrong selection and the entire bet is lost
  • !More selections = more risk

Useful tips for cricket betting at bengar

Betting is entertainment — keeping that in mind, the points below will help make the experience better.

  • 01 Know the format of each match — T20 and Test markets are different. Markets move fast in T20 and more slowly in Test.
  • 02 Rather than spreading across many markets at once, pick two or three and understand them properly.
  • 03 In multi bets, risk grows with every extra selection — start small.
  • 04 In in-play betting, watch the first few overs before placing a bet rather than rushing in.
  • 05 Do not place a larger bet to recover a loss — this is the most common mistake.
  • 06 Understand the odds before betting. Decimal 1.40 means a low return — if the favourite loses, that is a significant loss.
  • 07 For responsible betting, see how to set limits on the Responsible Gaming page.
  • 08 Betting is for ages 21 and above only. Do not allow minors to open an account.

Common questions about cricket betting

Yes, there are notable differences. T20 has more in-innings markets (powerplay runs, six counts) and odds shift very quickly. ODI features more partnership and run-rate markets. In Test cricket you get session-by-session markets, a draw is a valid result, and pitch conditions play a major role in betting decisions.

In-play bets generally cannot be changed once confirmed. However, some markets offer a cash-out option that lets you exit within a set time. If a match is cancelled or abandoned, bets are usually refunded — check bengar's terms and conditions for the specific rules.

BPL and IPL are both T20 tournaments, so most standard markets are available for both — match winner, top batsman, total runs over/under, and more. Because BPL is played in Bangladesh, local knowledge of pitch and conditions can be useful. For IPL, knowing each franchise's batting order and playing style helps when assessing top scorer markets.

Most Bangladeshi bettors find decimal odds easier because you simply multiply to get the total return. Example: ৳200 × 2.50 on Team A = ৳500 total (৳300 profit). With fractional odds (3/2) you divide the numerator by the denominator — a slightly older method. American odds use plus (+) and minus (−) signs with different meanings, so it is best to get comfortable with decimal odds first.

In handicap markets, one team is given a virtual run advantage. For example, if Team B has a −20 run handicap, 20 runs are deducted from their total when settling the result. In over/under markets, the only question is whether the runs scored will be above or below a set line (such as 160 runs) — the exact total does not matter.
